TEGRA 2: First SoC-based spo-comm PC

What sets the new addition apart is its special design. The TEGRA is not an ordinary x86 computer, but is based on an Nvidia SoC chip. These chips are normally used in mobile devices to make use of every millimeter. But increasingly smaller PCs for industrial applications are also using this design to save space. Measuring just 160 x 132 x 51 mm, the TEGRA 2 fits into even the smallest of corners.

Tegra SoM has everything integrated

There is also another decisive advantage. The TEGRA 2 is a so-called “system on a module” (“SoM”) – i.e. a single-chip system. This module has everything you need already integrated. These include an 8GB DDR4 RAM memory,  a 32GB eMMC flash memory and the eponymous Nvidia Tegra X2 CPU, as well as a LAN and WLAN module.

Linux Vibrante and CUDA

Nvidia uses a specially developed Linux distribution for its Tegra series, which goes by the name of Vibrante and is the Nvidia equivalent to the Ubuntu version, so to speak. Only even more special and also exclusively available for this hardware. Vibrante comes with a much larger GNU toolkit and is also equipped with significantly more Nvidia-related libraries. There is also a developer kit for the Tegra module, which, in combination with the 256 integrated CUDA cores, enables a wide range of applications.

Next-level digital signage – deep learning, AI & automation drive

Thanks to the Nvidia-related libraries, it is possible to process data and images significantly faster and more efficiently. The TEGRA 2 is therefore the perfect solution for anyone looking for a passively cooled digital signage player in the next league. Although the HDMI and DisplayPort multimedia connections make it possible to display content in 4K@60Hz resolution on two screens simultaneously, the mini PC can do much, much more thanks to its special features: the TEGRA 2 scores highly when it comes to real-time calculations and video editing in the automotive sector. However, the spo-book TEGRA 2 is also used for camera solutions with facial recognition, which can be found on display panels in department stores, for example, or general deep learning processes.

Variety of connections for a wide range of applications

In addition to a power button, the front panel of the mini PC also has two USB 2.0 ports and an SD card slot. Nvidia Quadro P1000 with MOSAIC support

As the name suggests, the high-performance Nvidia Quadro P1000 graphics card with 4GB DDR5 memory forms the heart of the new Mini-PC. The main feature of this graphics card is the MOSAIC support: with the help of the four HDMI interfaces, up to four screens can be connected in a network as a single desktop. The highlight here is that the screens remain connected even if a cable is disconnected.

Nvidia’s Nview and CUDA support

Another interesting feature of the graphics card is the Nview function. This tool, which is standard on all Nvidia Geforce graphics cards, can be used to make the screen more efficient. Nview is designed for all those who need to edit and process several windows or large amounts of data on their PC at the same time. On the one hand, working with Nview can easily be spread across several screens, so that open windows are no longer all on just one screen. On the other hand, it is also possible to distribute the windows to virtual desktops, between which you can switch at the touch of a button.

The Nvidia Quadro P1000 also offers CUDA support. Thanks to the 640 CUDA cores, which are based on the Pascal CPU, a wide variety of visualization programs, such as CAD, can be easily implemented.

Connection diversity thanks to 3x USB and 4x HDMI

The new addition to the digital signage mini PCs is equipped with various connections. The power button and two indicator lights for the HDD or SSD and WiFi are located on the front (see also “What is the difference between HDD and SSD?” and “What is LAN?“). One of a total of three USB 3.0 ports, two jack connections and an SD card reader are also located here.

In addition to two Gigabit LAN interfaces, the Mini PC’s back panel also offers four HDMI ports, which enable multi-monitor operation. They can be used to connect up to four screens with a maximum resolution of 3840 x 2160 @60Hz – i.e. 4K – at the same time (see also “What is the difference between 4K and 8K?“). This multi-monitor capability combined with the special Nview feature makes the QUADRO P1000 the perfect workstation solution. In addition, there is a COM port, two antenna ports and an SPDIF on the back, which is particularly advantageous in the stereo range (see also “What is SPDIF?“).

Power-saving Intel® CPU and individual configuration

Our actively cooled  QUADRO P1000 is equipped with an Intel® Core i5-7300U, which offers a performance of 2.6 GHz up to 3.5 GHz. Industrial PC in digital signage thanks to Nvidia graphics card

The expandable NOVA Q170 is the perfect choice for anyone who wants high graphics performance and the advantages of a fanless mini PC. The industrial PC can be expanded with a graphics card, such as the Nvidia Quadro P2000, using the integrated PCI Express slot. This opens up completely new areas of application for the passively cooled NOVA Q170 with its robust metal housing.

Thanks to its DVI connection and the two DisplayPort interfaces, up to three screens can be used simultaneously with different content (see also “VGA, DisplayPort, HDMI, DVI – What’s the difference between these multimedia interfaces?“). Even a maximum resolution of 3840 x 2160 @60Hz – i.e. twice 4K – is possible with the two DisplayPorts. With an optional dedicated graphics card, even more screens can be controlled; with an Nvidia Quadro P2000, a total of six times 4K would be possible.

NOVA Q170: 4K resolution & industrial monitoring

As the name suggests, the NOVA Q170 is based on an Intel Q170 chipset. Like its predecessor, the NOVA Q170 is ideal for monitoring applications and the logistics sector thanks to the combination of its robust metal housing and the extended temperature range of -10°C to +50°C.

NOVA Q170 as a server PC

Measuring 143 x 226 x 217 mm, the latest member of the NOVA family can no longer be described as a cube. This is due to a smaller number of slots than in the NOVA CUBE Q87. The NOVA Q170 is therefore slightly narrower than its little brother and still offers enough space for the installation of a x16 PCIe expansion card. Thanks to such an expansion card, graphics cards or network cards, for example, can be connected. Up to two 2.5″ hard disks, whether HDD or SSD (see also “What is the difference between HDD and SSD?“), can be installed in the industrial PC and can even be connected to form a RAID if even more security is required. The CPU is also supported by up to 32 GB of RAM.

Internal USB port with security key

The NOVA Q170 has a wide range of different interfaces to offer. In addition to the DisplayPort and DVI video outputs already mentioned, the NOVA also has two LAN ports and five COM ports. There are also six USB 3.0 ports on the front and two USB 2 ports on the back. The third 2.0 port is located inside the Mini-PC and is equipped with an internal security key. RUGGED in digital signage? GTX 1050Ti makes 8K possible!

We don’t want to beat about the bush and get straight to the main attraction that the new RUGGED GTX 1050 Ti has to offer: The eponymous dedicated nVidia GTX 1050 Ti graphics card. Some of you may already be familiar with this graphics card, as our spo-book KUMO IV is also equipped with a similar one – namely a GTX 1060.
But what makes the GTX 1050 Ti so special? With a memory of 4GB and up to 32GB of video RAM, smooth playback of content with a resolution of up to 8K is possible. So far so good. An 8K video wall is also possible with four of the seven HDMI ports on the front of the mini PC.

Passively cooled high-end graphics

Our RUGGED GTX 1050 Ti remains true to the common thread of the RUGGED series. Just like its predecessor, the spo-book RUGGED Q170, the new mini PC is based on a powerful sixth-generation Intel® Core i5 processor with a performance of 4 x 2.3 GHz. Thanks to the still passive cooling system and a solid metal housing, both of which we already know from the RUGGED series, outdoor use with the system is guaranteed in any case, because dirt, dust or moisture have no chance of getting inside. The extended temperature range from -40° Celsius to +70° Celsius is another advantage for outdoor use. Fancy an 8K video wall in the ski resort? No problem for our RUGGED GTX 1050 Ti!

NEW: RUGGED now also for the vehicle

With our last new launch in the RUGGED series, we announced that it is now also suitable for use in vehicles. The RUGGED GTX 1050 Ti is also capable of absorbing so-called voltage peaks, which usually occur when starting vehicles. The special feature of this system is that it can not only withstand the usual 9-36 volts, but can even handle up to 48 volts thanks to the wide range input. Like its little brother, the new Vehicle-PC is vibration and shock-tested in accordance with American military standards.

Just like its predecessors, the WINDBOX III EVO also impresses with its compact dimensions of 300 x 196 x 30 mm and can still be quickly attached to surfaces such as behind monitors or under desks in offices using the standard-compliant VESA mounts (see also “What is VESA?“). The weight is also the same as the older models, making integration into existing systems very easy.

Improved performance and consistent WINDBOX features

Our new spo-book  WINDBOX III EVO is equipped with a seventh-generation Intel Core i5 processor, which operates at up to 3.1 GHz and is supported by up to 32 GB of selectable RAM. On the one hand, this enables demanding multitasking, but applications running individually can also make optimum use of the CPU’s performance. The main feature of the WINDBOX is still the passive cooling system: absolutely silent working in particularly quiet areas is no problem. With the extended temperature range of -10°C to 50°C and the completely sealed metal housing, which prevents dust and dirt from reaching the inside of the Mini-PC, using the WINDBOX III EVO in particularly difficult conditions is certainly no problem. Such use is also guaranteed by the high quality of the components, as the Mini-PC is designed for 24/7 use.

Interface diversity for all areas

The WINDBOX III EVO also conquers the digital signage sector with its numerous video outputs. With one DVI and two DisplayPort interfaces, up to three monitors can be controlled simultaneously and either the same or different content can be played (see also “VGA, DisplayPort, HDMI, DVI – What is the difference between these multimedia interfaces?“). The equally high computing power of the EVO certainly meets the high demands placed on embedded PCs in this area: 4K content can be displayed without any delays. This will also replace the 1080p standard in the digital signage sector.

The wide variety of connections guarantees that the WINDBOX III EVO can work with existing configurations without any problems. The two Gigabit LAN interfaces and the optional WLAN and Bluetooth can be used to establish network connections, but wireless data transfers are also possible.

The device is equipped with 6 USB ports – four of which comply with the latest 3.0 standard – and can therefore be connected to numerous devices or external storage media. Thanks to the many different configurations, the WINDBOX III EVO can always be optimally adapted to the desired application.

No more Windows 7 support

Intel and Microsoft will no longer provide driver support for Kabylake processors under Windows 7 with immediate effect: For our customers, this means that in future we will only offer support for Windows 10.

The WINDBOX III EVO can now be configured, tested and purchased on our website according to your own requirements.
