NEW: CORE 2 – Compact DS player with desktop CPU

14.08.2019

New for the digital signage sector: almost three years after the introduction of the CORE series, spo-comm is launching its successor, the CORE 2. Like its predecessor, the mini PC is also 4K-capable and impresses with its excellent price/performance ratio. What is new, however, is that the CPU is now freely selectable. From Intel Pentium to Core i7 processors, there is something for every application.

From Pentium to i7: Coffee Lake in all variants

For the performance of the CORE 2, spo-comm relies on 8th generation Intel CPUs (Coffee Lake), which are extremely economical with a TDP of just 65 watts. Customers can choose between an Intel Pentium G5400 processor with 2 x 3.7 GHz, a Core i3-8100 with 4 x 3.6 GHz, a Core i5-8400 with 6 x 2.8 GHz (max. 4.0 GHz) and the ultra high-performance Core i7-8700 with 6 x 3.2 GHz (max. 4.6 GHz). This means that the Mini-PC can be perfectly adapted to the performance requirements of the respective application. Compared to its predecessor, there is also an enormous increase in performance. Benchmarks show that even the Pentium processor performs better than the Intel Core i5 in the former CORE.

Lots of storage in a small space

The compact industrial PC with dimensions of just 142 x 167 x 37 millimeters offers an enormous amount of storage space. The CPU can be supported with a maximum of 32 GB SO-DDR4 RAM. The CORE 2 also offers space for up to two SSDs: an m.2 from 240 GB (max. 960 GB) and a 2.5 inch SSD, which is available from 120 GB storage space. For example, it is possible to save the operating system and data on different media.

Connections for the multimedia area

The new CORE 2 has all the connections that a digital signage player needs. A DisplayPort and an HDMI connection enable the playback of content in 4K resolution (3840 x 2160 pixels) - even with sound thanks to the two audio outputs Line-in and Line-out. There are also three USB 3.1, one USB Type C and two USB 2.0 ports on the mini PC. Network connections are made possible via the LAN interface on the back panel or optional WLAN. Anyone using the CORE 2 in public places can secure it against theft using the Kensington Lock. Windows 10 in the Home, Pro or IoT version and Linux Ubuntu are available as operating systems.
